Just back from an amazing @britishlichensociety.org.uk trip to NW Scotland. A few of the special lichens seen: Gyalecta foveolaris, Platismatia norvegica, Golden Specklebelly (Pseudocyphellaria citrina) and Toninia plumbina, a parasite on Pectenea plumbea. Lovely stuff!
Show PostDid a recce today for a walk I’m leading for @rbgkew.bsky.social Wakehurst volunteer guides. They particularly wanted to know what was on the introduced trees around the Elizabethan House. All the lichens I saw were common lichens of broad-leaved High Weald woodland. Lots and lots of Usnea cornuta!
Show PostWork in progress. Been drawing Jumping Spiders last few days and I now have enough to make bookmarks! Salticids are my favourite spiders, they were the 'gateway' species that helped me overcome childhood 'fear' of spiders. #arachnids #spiders #invertebrates #Arachtober
Show PostA few lichens from the far north of Scotland - Blastenia lauri, Degelia plumbea s.str, Peltigera collina and Pannaria rubiginosa. 👀
Show PostDoing traditional Scottish things today, like hunting for lichens in Caledonian pine woods. Found my first Icmadophila ericotum, admired the abundance of species on pine twigs, and saw some bonny pink bonnets. 🏴
