One bizarre tale in this Palestinian folktale book is about a poor woman who tried to serve a meal to a guest, but wished the earth swallow her when she farted. She actually fell into the earth and met the remorseful personification of her fart in a market, who apologized with gold. #WyrdWednesday

An ancient account of King Ashurbanipal, who ruled in the 600s BCE, boasts of his enemies' suffering. It does not sound too far removed from some of the boasts we hear today. "They became like corpses. The faces of the people became gloomy like smoke (iqturū kīma qutri) with depression and grief."
