i was talking more about dq and dq7reimagined and rpgs in general again to some friends and the rage is welling up in me (not because of the friends. because of recent rpg trends) i hate the anti-grind "qol" systems in these games with such a righteous fury

do you think i enjoy the genre where combat encounters regularly load in a new arena, with unique enemy models and sprites, and a unique, dedicated battle system entirely unused in the rest of the games comparatively lightweight experience because i wanted to do it as little as possible

do you think i wanted a system that calculates my characters individual characteristics and scales them upward with every level because i wanted a game where their impact is minimal and their scaling is so hardlocked that no new encounter will ever feel any different from the last final fantasy 16

this technically speaks to all QoL-centric design fuckups in recent AAA games but it gets worse when you lean into what should be the exact features of the RPG genre that defined its complexity and then rob them of that meaningfulness final fantasy rebirth it just doesnt feel good mc dungeons 2
