As a child, I once saw my father (a black man) come home, sit on the couch and cry... because the company he'd been an industrial worker at for over 10 years, had promoted a white man he had spent the past 6 months training... to the very position my father had applied for. With no explanations.

It was at that time I began to realize I couldn't stay in a nation that treated people unfairly because of the color of their skin. After I graduated from university and saved up some money, I found a full time JP to English translation position with a company in Japan that was willing to hire me.

I escaped from the USA and never looked back. For the past 15+ years my life in Japan has been joyful, safe, prosperous, rewarding, fulfilling, full of friendship, camaraderie and opportunities. Never once here have I felt I've been treated unfairly or negatively based on my race.
