10/ Tao found it unlikely that AIs could do research math unassisted in 3-4 years, expecting we’d need lots of experience from human-AI collaboration first. However, he said that full automation could occur within 10 years given massive investment, akin to a “Manhattan Project”.
Show Post9/ Around 20 years ago, Borcherds witnessed chess engines surpass the strongest chess players over several years, despite claims that this was impossible. In a similar vein, he predicted AIs would surpass human mathematicians in roughly 10 years, with substantial uncertainty.
