Even in estrangement those kids love their parents more than they're getting back. They love their parents enough not to broadcast their parents' shittiness to the world, they try to keep it quiet, low-key, private. But the parents don't extend the same courtesy and whine in public.

Also when I say "smash the nuclear family" I mean it and I live it but we're also a bunch of neurodivergent weirdos and/or introverts so everyone having some defined and physically separated space is also uh. Really good. Also we probably couldn't afford a single giant house.
