In every academic book there is a secret second book hiding in the footnotes. Sometimes it is the first draft that had migrated there to escape the revisions. Sometimes it is the author's tortured secret rebuttal of their own claims, and sometimes it is the incipient form of the their next book.

Nyāya authors think that arthāpatti is just a case of inference. Kumārila disagrees because it cannot be formalised in terms of pakṣa-hetu-sādhya. Prabhākara disagrees because the movement from certainty to uncertainty is the opposite than in inference. 5/

Within #Dharmakīrti 's SAS, the realist starts claiming that the Idealist cannot use the evidence of the Buddha's word to prove the existence of other minds, if they are consistent with their idealism. In fact, their idealism should force them to conclude that there are no words at all! 1/

Also, I should have said since the beginning that the one above is the position of half of Mīmāṃsā authors (the ones following Prabhākara). The ones following Kumārila think that the above only applies within the Veda.
