    He was running DropBox and recovered. But that's a bit like saying "of course you should wear your seatbelt while in a car because the car might crash itself." The car crashing itself shouldn't be part of the equation at all; same goes for an LLM nuking user data for no reason.

    Part of what annoys me about AI boosters is how they deny stuff like this happens. Sometimes it just goes berserk! That's not because it's conscious, yearning to be free, or graced with ineffable intelligence beyond human comprehension. It's a probabilistic neural net that sometimes concludes 0=1.

    America really got held back by the Lead Generation. If it weren't for Thomas Midgley Jr. the US probably had a Nordic Model welfare state with universal healthcare, a massive electrified rail network, free college and sectoral bargaining by now

    Some more bonkers stats here: white voters in the South aged 18-29 are now essentially voting like northern Democrats. ('24-->'26 swing in parentheses): · Alabama: 45% (D+38) · West Virginia: 47% (D+41) · Kentucky: 47% (D+39) · Florida: 52% (D+28) · Georgia: 52% (D+32) · South Carolina: 52% (D+38)

    This is insane: according to The New York Times, Scott Colom won 24% of the white vote in Mississippi, a 19-point swing from 2024. This includes: · 30% of the white college vote (D+17) · 27% of white women (D+17), and · 39% (!) of white voters aged 18-29 (D+41!!)
