    I've cycled in London for decades, I've been a club rider, I've had training to ride (and lead rides). There are absolutely times when I will ride on the pavement and that can be both where theres a huge hostile multi lane road, a country A road, or some back street rat run.

    The official government and police guidance is that actually it *is* perfectly ok to cycle on the pavement if you feel the road is unsafe and you do so with consideration to other pavement users.
