He wrapped one arm around her and put his hand on the back of her head. The bond stirred between them like an ember finding air. Rey let out a sob and cried against his shoulder, and something slid down his cheek that he took for a memory until it dripped off his jaw and landed in Rey's hair.

Her hand reached him. He felt warmth where her fingers pressed against his chest, and she let out a sob that sounded like it had been waiting weeks. Then she wrapped both arms around him, her face against his shoulder, and he was solid enough for that, apparently.

She lifted one hand like she meant to touch him, and he had no idea if that was possible. He had meant to tell her he was sorry. That he’d stayed away because he didn’t know how to be whatever this was. And that he'd loved her since a hut on an island, and probably before.
