    I think of the spyro remake which did a good job somewhat of preserving the old gameplay, but in raising the fidelity and # of creases in the environment, also created a million invisible walls to get snagged on because the collisions still resembled the old lowpoly geometry

    if a game is giving you a hard time, think about what it's asking you to do and how you could do this differently. play with its own set of rules and tactics in mind, try different things, anything to give you a new perspective and not stay in that stale same homogeneous pile

    i used to think that every time someone wished for a remake it was for games that are totally playable but have a tiny degree of friction. but now i see people calling critically-acclaimed masterpieces outdated, it's fucking nuts

    the desire for cohesive and eternal """good design""" is effectively killing any sort of artistic intent. if a game has tank controls it will take you a couple of minutes to adapt then the rest will be smooth sailing, it really isn't more complicated than that
