The "normal" limiting value is 150mm for Network Rail infrastructure. Only in extreme cases can we retain up to 180mm cant on existing lines. Those limits are driven first and foremost by how steep the floor gets for passengers across the width of the train.
Postu gösterOne fun thing about smartphones having leveling tools built into the camera app is that you can take pictures showing what CANT looks like. I happen to know that cant on this ECML curve in Doncaster is 160-180mm, and you can see why this is the limit! #RailwaysExplained

Postu göster#OnThisDay 141 years ago the GWR completed its branch to Staines, later named Staines West. To save the expense of building a station from scratch, a c.1820s house in the town was purchased which remains, 61 years after closure. Images: Disused Stations buff.ly/waJahD6
Postu gösterTight Fit - Camden Town. One of my favourite things about curved platforms is being able to look deep into the tunnels while waiting for a train. Here's a photo of a train arriving at Camden Town, I love how the light in the tunnel helps to highlight how tight the tunnel is.
