    How many of the older generations take whatever they see from the desk preachers of YouTube as gospel? Or trust it like they used to with the evening news?

    My 72yo mom joined Facebook about 10y ago. She is now anti-vax (specifically the covid jab). She knows it is 99% bullshit but it still seaps in through osmosis. It particularly sucks as she has Atrial fibrillation, emphysema, a compromised immune system & has had pneumonia twice in the last 6 yrs.

    It’s darkly funny in a way. We’re living in a world where the idea of banning smartphones for under-16s is celebrated for the problems they can cause. Gen-X Millennials who grew up with and without Tech stand a better chance than most at navigating it. But I wonder…

    This is how it starts btw. They get access to (/force-fed by) hysterical, frenzied and unregulated news. And it’s just this *onslaught* of disinformation and lies. …that EVEN someone like my Dad - with ~40Y of media experience behind him - is just consumed.

    I joked about how ill-advised it was of my brother to get my old man a smartphone (“He’ll be radicalised in 72H”) 3 wks ago he was telling me “people are just so bloody angry though!” about small-boats. This weekend I caught him commenting on Dan Wootton’s YouTube channel.
