    The collective Australian media seem not to have noticed what the massive street protests in individual "rich" countries around the world, with exactly the same problems Australia shares, actually mean. Neo liberalism has reached the point of complete exhaustion.

    my not-hot take is that bigotry breaks a lot of people, and in the end Stevens decided being anti-Muslim was more important to her sense of self than stopping fascism, stemming corruption, or having a career. I wish it were rarer but it's not. And no, it's never 'gutsy.'

    My guess is that if they do in fact lose the Senate, Alito and Thomas will retire by the end of the week and they will ram through younger ideological replacements in the lame duck.

    One way of understanding how important Democratic control of the Senate for the next 2 years is, is thinking about SCOTUS. A GOP majority gives Trump free rein to confirm whoever he wants for any open seats. A Dem majority to act as a check is essential.
