For a few years now I’ve been hearing people repeat catchphrases like “I have GOT to get weirder”, “my art is for freaks and perverts only”, “real queer life is messy”, etc. Good art is personal, vulnerable, uncommodifiable (well…I personally think ‘freak shit’ is a commodity too, but you know.)

I’ve been thinking recently about this kind of defensiveness especially of queer art (or even of art that has become symbolically important to queer people)

Even before AI people were talking about ‘slop’, about commercialism, about the algorithm, about how disheartening it is to put your heart into vulnerable work and have it received as ‘content’, I think the conversation ties in with shipping discourse as well

okay what if there was a bust comm. but it was like folk trad tat style. and what if if you wanted to be extra you printed it on stencil paper and laminated it as a badge. imagine it looks better and more polished than this, also
