An interesting attestation of s³fr = ‘write’ in Taymanitic. And evidence, to my mind, that Heb. sefer (‘book’), SPR = ‘to tell’, Phoen. mspr (‘number’), Ugar. SPR = ‘to count’, etc., go back to a root in *ts (s³), and that Akk. šapāru = ‘to write’ is distinct, from šapāru = ‘to send a message’.

VERY movable type indeed. On one of the pages of this copy of Varia carmina (1498), a collection of Latin poems by Sebastian Brant, you can see how the letters 'g' and 'r' appear to have been lifted during the process of printing. #bookhistory #rarebooks #earlymodern

Here's a little extra detail from the Lindisfarne Gospels in closeup with one of our newly-identified leaves. See the quoted thread for a link to our note and an abstract.

A puzzle that we'd love to have the Bsky paleographical brain trust solve is that, afawct, the lozenge-shaped I initial in the James fragment is the *only* instance of this letter-shape being used for I instead of O. If you spot another I of this shape, let us know! (Pics: James fragment I, LG O.)
