    It’s interesting because “complex things emerging from simple mathematical systems” isn’t new at all and is more or less how we all got here from an evolutionary perspective, but I see a set of people acting like it’s a claim that originated with OpenAI

    There's a lot of humanities ppl who need to get the "LLMs cannot create novel things" trope out of their heads. That's not true. And it's arguably a category error, given that creativity most often arrives via a complex interaction with an intellectual environment, which LLMs can partake of.
