This watchtower was constructed in c.1800 in the ancient graveyard of Cruagh in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. It was built to keep watch over the recently departed, to protect them against the growing threat of 'Resurrection Men' or bodysnatchers, who sold the bodies to medical schools.
