Don’t yell at me but I don’t think this is an easy question at all. For me the human-like aspects of AI creations/robots may deserve special treatment because their abuse might encourage abuse of humans. Or if the thing is meaningful to someone else (just like you shouldn’t abuse a kid’s doll).

Also worth saying that I find the notion that calling an AI a clanker is an unacceptable cruelty especially odd when it comes from a society which apparently regards the death penalty as a totally acceptable cruelty.

Cruelty is a sort of muscle, and it may be desirable to let it atrophy regardless of its target, but I don't really think the target /outright doesn't matter./

I think that, until we encounter some space elves, we are the only documented kind of sapient being. As such, while I think cruelty in general is undesirable and shouldn't be trained, it is only when it is applied to a clearly living thing that it becomes a clearly restrainable phenomenon.
