He's a v late addition to the Hood myths, which were largely set in 14C (the King mentioned in the ballads is called Edward). It was a 16C Scots chronicler who put Hood in Richard/John era (for no good reason), & this only caught on bcos of Walter Scott using it to shoehorn Hood into 'Ivanhoe'.

Man was out of the country longer than in it, was French, Had a great moniker and is fondly remembered because his younger brother was arguably the worst King ever. Oh and Robin Hood has always shown him as a liberator…which is a myth from a fairy tale.

Those are actual facts. But it is upsetting to these people based on absolutely nothing. They genuinely know nothing about Richard I and imagine him as Sean Connery, but this upsets them. Also Saladin was gonna take over Europe or something. You heard it here first.
