    Every single weekend, I hopped on an Amtrak to go back home. And funny enough, I’d often see then Senator Biden on the same train. He’d smile at me, and presumably he was heading home to get some bear hugs of his own.

    During one of my first weekends at school, I heard that my uncle waited for me by the window for an entire night. That wasn’t going to happen a second time.

    My uncle taught me everything there was to know about patience. About kindness. About difference. About friendship. He was the best friend I could ever have. Eventually I would realize my dreams and be accepted to attend college in Washington DC. But I knew that leaving would be hard on my pal.

    As soon as I walked in he would leap off couch with his huge “HEY JOE!!!” and give me the strongest bear hug ever. We’d walk to my house together arm in arm. His laughter, love, and energy filled my house for the days he spent with us.

    Before college, I would pick up my Uncle Joe every Friday at my grandma’s to spend the weekend with us. He would sit by the window with his jacket on and bag packed for hours waiting for me. I’d sneak up the stairs and then tap on the window, just so I could see his huge smile.
