i think ultimately there's a problem w game design for mass appeal right now that just assumes the experience of getting lost and trying things isn't fun for anyone. i don't know if i've ever fully understood this. you could argue "game for kids" but like, we all know it's not just games for kids.

like clearly everyone knows the dungeons are large setpiece environments full of puzzles but when playing ocarina for the first time i was really charmed and delighted by how much the stuff BETWEEN dungeons felt like a puzzle as well sometimes. even if it was occasionally a bit obtuse.

i do think ocarina remake is too much of an overcorrection in terms of how much everything in the overworld points you exactly in the direction of the next story beat. i kinda expected this from the jump so im not too pressed about it but it's a small bummer.
