like I’m trying to teach an agentic workflow for research course right now, and I’m afraid the message is “well, there’s 10,000 tools that do memory management, prompt steering, etc and all of them will produce wildly different research trajectories in the aggregate. good luck I guess?”

but i totally agree, and I fear the elaborate memory, prompt, etc systems around models are going the way of content moderation systems, where we’ll be forced to poke around at their edges with research designs based on enormous assumptions about how they work
