  • The thing is, there's a degree of privilege (or of privileging a certain experience) necessary to argue that civil rights, that trans rights, that immigration aren't "kitchen table" issues. Pretty much we need to ask these operatives "whose kitchen table are you talking about?"

This is exactly what I keep saying. People won't *admit* they're voting for rapists, pedos, and asshole jerks, but they will vote for them. IMO if you don't want to admit you support somebody, maybe have a wee think about whether you should support him, but a wee think is beyond their scope.

Also software engineering is *barely* similar to other engineering disciplines let alone other *professions* in the context of how large language models impact their workflows. Extrapolating the impact in software development to other professions isnt good practice.

Its worse than that. We actually have evidence it actually *hurts* software development as business. Most of the software engineers who sing its praises have never even read a single financial statement or balance sheet of the companies they work for.

Number 2 isnt true. This is a textbook example of "individual contributor tunnel vision". They only see the impact of *their* part of the process but not the whole. Coding output is way up, avg about 30% more lines of code per developer, but it hasnt put a dent in shipped product or quality.
