At the very least we need a Truth and Reconciliation Commission in this country. Let these political leaders appear before the nation and take responsibility for what they’ve done. Otherwise the dead will never rest. Their deaths will hang over us as a curse.

In most cases though not all (Pretti and Good), these people were black or brown and often poor. Are these lives expendable, worth less than mine or yours?

If these deaths had happened to white people, you know calls for justice would trump the call for the realpolitik of “moving on.”

And more than that: people died due to decisions made by people in this administration. In ICE detention, by the closure of USAID, etc. Do these lives lost matter at all to anyone? Does this just get chalked up to being just politics? Will their families ever see justice?
