    but then I have always been biased toward the hermit who perfected their obscure craft, over a mainstream financial success story. women, minorities and the underclass should be allowed the same pathway to greatness as everyone. they aren't.

    fwiw I think a lot of so called "auteurs", regardless of sex (though there are far more men in this category), are more career driven than talented. for me studios are class driven too. artists aren't all ladder climbers. sometimes the gems are near the surface, but a lot of the time you gotta dig

    as much as this is true in the modern era, from my time documenting studios old & new there is for-sure a male bias we have to push back against in our storytelling. I also think, perhaps wrongly, that most women tend to operate with less ego. And in games "auteurs" are most often a product of ego.

    i still remember my wife driving me to the emergency room last year when my gallbladder shit the bed (turns out it was necrotic) and her asking me if we should drive to our in-network hospital 30 minutes further away and I couldn't speak because of the pain. still angry she had to make that call.
