Wooly Bird's Nest Fungi, several with "eggs" waiting to be splashed out! These round packets contain spores and rain is what disperses them out of the cup or peridia. The Tongass has 2 common species of birds nest fungi. The genus name Nidula means "little nest" in Latin. #AlaskaSky

First orca sighting of the year!! Others got better pictures than I did and were able to identify the pod— T109s with new calf T109A8! They cruised thru the narrows by #Ketchikan yesterday afternoon. Heading north. #AlaskaSky

Deer Mtn is a steep trail with big steps and our pup Kaladin struggled a bit with them last time. So I tried out a doggie backpack and believe he enjoyed it. We found lovely moss, jelly drop fungus, and magical sunbeams thru the moss-covered forest. #Tongass #Ketchikan #AlaskaSky
