Postu gösterThe British were meant to be understated, not given to overt shows of emotion and always adhering to conservative principles (small C). Now every lamp post in my area has a huge poppy adorning it. As if somehow the sheer acreage of poppies increases their meaning (it does not).

Postu gösterRepeating a simple idea: The UK govt provides approx £35 BILLION in Universal Credit to people who are employed but not paid enough to get by. Doing something about the low pay could free up tens of billions of £ to fix roads etc, while making people lives MUCH better. /1
Postu gösterThe govt could start with large, multinational corps / international private equity / etc that underpay workers while dodging taxes using tax havens etc. Double bonus - reduce the welfare bill AND collect more taxes. Triple bonus - paying people more while keeping wealth inside the UK! /2
