Some people (many at AI firms) say that a science and academia will be replaced by LLMs. My feeling is that is false: the deep and conceptual thinking part of knowledge production is still sorely needed and LLMs are not doing that. It just needs to be separated from verbose fluent language.

“Weak articles now arrive on my [editors’] desk with fluent prose, plausible-sounding arguments, neatly organized sections, and citations that pass initial AI checks. Only w a deeper look does the AI use become apparent.” Yes. My advice to 🧪 students now: learn how to make conceptual arguments.
