    My favourite thing is when some prick who's only familiar with a given trope via self-consciously wacky parodies of it is like "here's my idea for deconstructing [trope] by playing it 100% straight" and unwittingly reconstructs the exact conventional trope that was being parodied in the first place.

    I'm not even being wholly sarcastic. Having the media analysis chops to take a bunch of silly-ass parodies and work backwards to identify what the straight trope they're sending up must have looked like is all the more impressive for lacking the media literacy to understand what it is you're doing.
