    Why California? 1) It’s big—messing with Los Angeles County alone could tip the balance of the House. 18 congressional districts touch it in some way! 2) California is slow to count votes, and bad-faith actors see this as a volatile time to cast aspersions on the process.

    Because of the media’s horse race fixation, we must keep chanting Jay Rosen’s phrase “not the odds, but the stakes.” Think of it this way: Did they write stories about how the election outcome will affect gas prices, or did they write stories about how gas prices will affect the election outcome?
