    I didn't grow up in a house with a name. The only people I knew who had houses with names instead of numbers were the various horse people my mum worked for. If I'd visited a house that looked like Joanne's childhood home I'd have assumed it was a rich-person house.

    This is a common tactic from the right. They see a leftwing movement and call us all out-of-touch poshos and everyone can therefore dismiss us. You'll hear it from supporters of Farage, a man who went to Dulwich College, worked in the city and transferred to politics. Joanne has a yacht.

    To call others "elitist" for ANY reason when you were supported enough to be able to write your first book and have now been richer than the vast majority for 25+ years is ludicrous. To call others "elitist" for supporting trans rights? Well that's just disgusting.

    ...meaning she could sit in her brother-in-law's cafe all day eating and drinking for free. NOBODY deserves an abusive marriage and thank god she got out. And not everyone who goes through this has the financial support network she had. Everyone SHOULD have this but they just don't.

    Joanne Kowling Rowling had a nice middle-class upbringing. Her dad ran a village shop (in England btw, she's English). Her childhood home is a beautiful cottage with a NAME, not even a number! She was able to write Harry Potter because family and friends helped her out as an adult...
