I think it’s pretty reasonable to look askance at a story about a notable media twunt in London behaving horrifically with what looks like the connivance of a huge number of other London media twunts, now being reported by London media twunts as a damning indictment of The Left.

And I’d add: the horrifying conduct of the defence KC and the ridiculous ease with which wealthy people can deploy litigation to crush poorer people who have legit complaints both raise pretty big questions about why it is like this at all.

Have to say I do not love the wild veering between “Our hated leftist enemies are to blame” and “In some ways, isn’t everyone to blame”. I feel like we can be more specific about the media figure promoted and indulged by other media people throughout his very high profile media career.

This stuff about Brand’s dalliance with left wing politics is all true and I agree with both Zoe and Ellie here. But I would underline: Brand is a media figure who had a media career surrounded by media people, and it was media people who saw his behaviour up close over many, many years.
