    But it's funny how, to be more precise, there are those who think being subversive is what makes you trans, therefore if you're more subversive then you're more trans, versus those who think being trans is serious so the more you suffer and want to be more cis-like and normal then you're more trans

    It became a debate about whether trans people who get surgery or those who don't are more subversive and therefore more trans. This is obviously unproductive. I feel I let that go quite easily and just have to accept that there are malicious people who don't get it. Nowadays altersex suits me fine.

    For a little while I called myself a cissexual transgender man to make a satirical statement on how we'd view me for not wanting bottom surgery, but it caught on with a crowd of "cis is the opposite of trans" (it doesn't have to be) "so if you're any amount of cis then you're less trans" (what??)

    When you propose, on social media, a term for how we talk about gender, and you see how it's been warped and abused beyond what you proposed it for, at what point do you give up telling everyone else they got it wrong, and concede that it caught on for the wrong reasons and now means something else?
