    There are now at least 15 counties in TX where the total early/mail vote has exceeded the total turnout from 2022, including election day votes. These counties are clustered in south Texas/RGV, Dallas, Houston, and Austin metros.

    It also seems like there is no incentive in mainstream media to buck conventional wisdom, even if you turn out to be right, but there are a lot of downsides, including bruising egos that will ruin your career. It seems to interfere with coverage to such an extent as to become a lot less useful.

    Trump dominates all media coverage, but you have had two huge *structural changes* that directly affect minority voters that have largely gone under the radar and the effects of ICE and SCOTUS murdering the VRA will persist *long* after Trump.

    Parts of the South are also more heavily Latino than people realize. In 2026, Southern politics are no longer just Black/White. Obviously places like TX and FL have huge Latino populations, but look at GA etc. Change is afoot on multiple dimensions at once!

    Southern politics had settled into a truce where African Americans got guaranteed representation in exchange for Republican statewide dominance. SCOTUS ended the truce. I'm convinced we're getting an entirely different Southern party system as a result, we just don't know what that will look like
