another person said it best, to these people, ao3 is just another streaming service. they don't want friends, they don't want community, they want CONTENT, and they want it NOW.
Postu gösteranyway i guess the point is that a huge portion, if not the majority, of ao3 readers are effectively lurker-only. they want a bedtime story every once in a while but they don't do Fandom. they don't put themselves out there, they don't join communities. they read ao3. that's it.

Postu gösterlike i suggested that someone ask an author on their socials for a copy of a fic they wanted to read, and multiple people acted like i told them to doxx themselves. as if i told them to hunt down the author's linkedin or facebook under their real government name or something.
