Postu gösterLearned today that this man, Don Heller, died in 2022. I will always remember calling him upon news of the moratorium in 2019, some 3 years after our first interview, and realizing he had not yet heard. So I got to tell him the news. It's a shame he did not live to see this moment.

This is more than a political issue, it impacts lives everywhere, even if they remain invisible to most.
Postu gösterFor those pointing out that this is a political move: Yes, yes it is. The death penalty is ALWAYS political which is one of the reasons it's so repugnant. That *Gavin Newsom* did this while harboring well-known electoral ambitions speaks volumes about where we've shifted politically. Very important.

Understandable, since no one has been executed there in 20+ yrs, but I get the same response from ppl in states that are *actively putting people to death.* Very little understanding of this system in general.
