Postu gösterThere are only so many now-low-hanging fruits you can get before you run out and have to start thinking about the next question. Scratch that, there are only so many people in the TCS community, period! This year was the "hit me with your best shot" year. We got 1665 submissions.
Postu gösterI have an optimistic view of the "1665 submissions to STOC 2027" figure. Yes, it doubled, and yes, it's shocking. But that's a relief, too? This year is the first AI tools could produce "STOC-looking" papers. Everyone and their dog suddenly could submit, and likely did. It won't get much worse!
Postu gösterAnother major red flag in a lot of these studies (not included in this one) are PCA showing historical vs modern samples separating out on PC1. So often I see this interpreted as major population turnover on short timescales, but to me it again screams of batch effects.
Postu gösterFor context, the current census sizes reported in Liu et al are on the order of ~1.5 million, and Ne estimates are unsurprisingly also quite large (~10e5-10e6). Not much genetic drift happening with Ne>10e5 in just 20 generations!
