one of my favorite food purchases as a poor person who loves Italian food is a live basil plant! it was $3 at winco, and even when used quite a lot, lasted me and my husband over a year before it needed to be retired. we just got a new one and having fresh basil amidst more canned stuff helps a ton!

Postu gösterTip #10: Grow things. If you have outdoor space, use it for food! If you're like me & live in an apartment, you can grow herbs, leafy greens, and even container/dwarf varieties of crops indoors (some year-round)! Microgreens can be grown in a jar. You can even regrow your scallions in water.
Postu gösterTip #9: Meal prep where you can. Whether its chopping a bunch of veggies in advance for you to add to meals, or prepping a bunch of freezer burritos, prepping your food ahead of time can save you from stress, and preventing yourself from spending money on overpriced premade meals.
Postu gösterTip #8: Learn to love canned foods. If you go to a food pantry, you are likely going to recieve some canned foods. They're cheap, store well, and keep a good amount of nutrients, but they can be odd! I recommend you watch this channel for ideas on how to cook with them: youtube.com/@kikirough
