My little indie game: - Hand drawn pixel art by me! - Music by me! - Made in GameMaker. - A spooktacular defense / strategy roguelite. - Build a team of freaky little monsters + modifiers (Spooky Skeletons, Haunted Werewolves, Psychic Slashers, and many more!) store.steampowered.com/app/5103900/...

The Saudis clearly want Esports World Cup to fulfill that role (and i suspect they're actively cannibalizing Evo to achieve this), but a lot of the scene refuses to buy the astroturfing there. It's all so fractured now with every game having its own pro tour & Evo being spread thin, y'know?

With fighting games in particular, i do think it also matters that the Evo brand has already been so watered down (Evo France had < 500 players for every game besides SF6 & Tekken, and got far less viewers than the average Hasan stream) & there's no clear "Super Bowl of FGs" anymore

So many of us thought people would only ever care about the best of the best, but maybe the current economic realities of pro (e)sports (needing government/gambling/crypto money to remain viable at that scale) have made the vibes there rancid enough to turn off a lot more folks?
