Obviously economic pressure impacts all of the above as well, but the issue is even when people DO have money to spend, they have to sift through endless dross to find what they like, and every moment doing that means they’re more likely to just give up and move on.

With itch specifically, their NSFW ban debacle obviously harmed traffic, but there’s been essentially no rebound. Visibility is sunk, and you have to work ten times harder per sale. Bundles can still be okay income, but I’m seeing those struggle more now too.

What’s happening on itch is the same thing happening on KU, Etsy, Steam, and all the search engines. Independent creators are being slowly suffocated by spam that is crowding “new” lists, devouring website / app resources, and making every platform worse.
