    I've always thought it odd too, I believe it was both a financial and critical success, so it seems strange considering how Universal liked to milk their other monsters.

    Yes, this original make-up was first designed for Henry Hull in Werewolf of London but it was thought to contradict the script, which stated Hull's character (Wilfred Glendon) was still instantly recognisable to the other characters. Carl Laemmle agreed and ordered the change.

    Agreed, to be honest it's one of the very few horror roles that fitted Chaney perfectly. And I absolutely love that poem, Curt Siodmak wrote it specifically for the film but you're right, it sounds like ancient European folklore.

    Just enjoyed a couple of Peter Cushing films and now to end my Halloween movie marathon, it has to be 'The Undead' (1957) I love this creepy, witch filled gem! It practically screams Halloween! 🎃👻
