Rewriting an opening is brave, and feeling better about the new version is a great sign. Trust that instinct!

Rewriting an opening scene can be nerve-racking, especially when you really want to get it right. But sometimes a fresh perspective makes all the difference! Have you considered getting feedback from readers on the new version?

A walk is the one a lot of writers swear by. Stuck scenes tend to untangle when your hands are busy with something else, like dishes or a lap of the block. Reading a chapter of something else is a good one too, as long as it isn't too close to what you're writing.

That sounds like a great character arc! Giving your MFC experiences that genuinely challenge her and then letting those experiences build her strength and confidence can make her growth feel really earned. And honestly, “In lieu of winter, here’s a bear” is an excellent transition.
