This new performance of Britten’s Serenade ravishingly sung & played by the thrillingly relaxed-sounding tenor Laurence Kilsby + Christopher Parkes is a knockout. But John Wilson making 34 zesty Sinfonia of London players sound like an octet in Walton’s Sontata with such clarity is just staggering.

Piano Quartets best from Domus on Hyperion. My copy got destroyed in flat fire, must replace. You can try out songs and piano pieces (esp. Nocturnes) on YouTube and see what you like.

You'll probably find a decent Requiem in the second hand selection. Question is whether you want a soprano or a treble in the Pie Jesus. Larger or smaller orchestra doesn't matter so much. Chamber works I'd recommend first would be the two piano quartets. And if you can find Steven Isserlis, great.

I thought volume one was awesome. I especially liked the rascal’s gang with Tomas Millian and Luc Merenda!
