Postu gösterSeeing a lot of really rancid takes on the AO3 discourse, so I have an analogy I’d like to share with all of you. Imagine that you have a very sweet grandmother, who makes the best pies you’ve ever had. She always bakes you one when you come to visit her.
Postu gösterWhy the hell would we want to keep making shit for you? We sure aren’t getting paid for any of the work we do. Respect is the absolute bare minimum we are entitled to, and we don’t even get that.
Postu gösterAnd this is what it’s like when Gran can’t make you pies every single time, but still wants you to be able to enjoy them—and instead of learning how to create you decide to give that “recipe” to a factory. Something that is important to both creator and consumer, but for very different reasons.
Postu gösterThis is how fan-creators feel when our viewers say they don’t owe us anything. No, you don’t, technically. But we don’t owe you a pie either.
