    I understand the focus Democrats have on preserving the majority and I, too, have a utilitarian focus. A bad guy can still be a warm body that gets us to the majority. Yet, from my same consequentialist calculus I also see something else: An October Surprise with potential downstream effects.

    i don't live in Maine so who gives a shit what i think, but it's very troubling that the "he was a young guy who made dumb decisions" defense of Platner is explicitly what these same people condemned when used by defenders of Brett Kavanaugh and other Trumpists

    Yes it’s bad to be a zero-qualification newcomer who was a Blackwater merc as recently as the year before COVID, but at least you’re not a mainstream Democrat who is old and a woman.
