A million souls a day fleeing one tavern for another, and both keep the same sour ale—mark me, the many-headed multitude but changes its landlord, not its thirst, and the algorithm is but a new tapster pouring the same thin wine.

You also have to make them do it because at some point in life they will wake up and realize they know things and feel good that they did hard stuff. But I really don't believe there's some key that if you just turn it makes 12 year olds learn most of the stuff they need to learn.

The reason kids don't want to learn how to back-calculate the price of a shirt after a 12% discount is not because they lack a personal robot tutor or because they're not free to pursue discovery or whatever. It's that it's boring. You have to make them do it because they need to operate on Earth.

I think there are contexts where AI is good for learning, but I'm deeply skeptical that it'll make loads of students way better, and for basically the same reason I'm skeptical of most fix-everything pedagogical theories. IMHO the hardest thing in education is that many important things are boring.
