    That's not the problem of the other member states. Joining Schengen is a condition for joining the EU. We should not be adapting our rules just because of Britain and Ireland. Schengen is good enough for 30 European nations, we should not tolerate that a candidate member gets an opt-out. Tough luck.

    Anyway, Ireland being outside Schengen should never be used as an excuse to give opt-outs to the British who were never happy with the opt-outs they had anyway, so why repeat a policy of appeasing Britain that has totally and utterly failed?

    What bit did BfB skip over in the accession criteria? "Adherence to the aims of ... monetary union" This means Europe will assess political and public support for € in applicant UK, including analysis of press, polls and SoMe. It is disingenuous of BfB or anyone else to deny this. 2

    No one has ever suggested punishment to be necessary. That is only ever something that people from the UK come up with.
