there's not much you can do about people who gishgallop & change their angle from one sentence to the next, just looking for what sticks, bc they don't believe in anything but their own righteousness in punishing those who don't show belly. the tools you have are what you have & sometimes necessary.

and of course what i've found is those same abusers & bad actors will use this tool too as soon as they find an angle for it. c'est la vie. there is no rhetorical framework immune to being weaponized and misused. some people believe in nothing but their own right to trample others & look righteous.

and like, yes it's very "inside baseball," but the problem is that Online(tm) is filled with bad actors, abusers, hate mobs, stalkers, and transmisogynists for whom nuance is a weapon to weasel their way into positions where they can abuse people, and blunt tools & inside baseball become necessary

it's in my bio as a measure to balance between my desire not to be too specific in articulating my relationship to gender online because It's Complicated for personal reasons and a desire not to passively mislead people about who i am and where i am positioned in the epistemic standpoint diagram etc

i confess that i have not always loved it as a taxonomy, it has seemed at times to me like a blunt tool, and has felt like people sometimes use it improperly. but well, if you spend enough time observing "the discourse" and seeing how transfems are treated online it makes sense why it emerged.
