    1990 is absolute it, but only if the supposition is that Ruthenasia would not have happened in say 1993 if National lost in 1990. 1984 is also a strong contender, but a lot more debatable given that after Muldoon, a lot of stuff had to change; and more Muldoon would have just sucked as well.
